“GeoSeine: Geocritism of the Seine”

GeoSeine is a research project led by the University of Le Havre in partnership with the University of Rouen, the University of Caen, l’Ecole supérieure d’Art et de Design de Rouen et du Havre [the National Art and Design School of Rouen and Le Havre], and l’Ecole nationale supérieure d’architecture de Normandie [the National Architectural School of Normandy]. This project was awarded the regional grant, Réseaux d’intérêt normand [Normandy Network of Interest], and will take place over the next three years starting in September 2018. The research program consists in exploring the literary and artistic representations of the Seine, using the geocritical method established at the University of Limoges by Bertrand Westphal. It is articulated across four different axes: Literature, Art, Seine History, and Tourism. This on-line workbook will track the progress of the four axes and aims to fulfill the following objectives: establish a corpus of literary texts addressing the Sein that will utlimately lead to the creation of a digital atlas of the river; record the research and artistic performances that will take place in situ, which will eventually result in exhibits and contribute to completing the digital atlas of the river; share the progress of the publication of works by Philippe-Urbain Thomas, a specialist of Sein History, for the History axis; establish an inventory of the existing measures in place to valorize tourism and literary heritage. The workbook will be maintained by the researchers and teams involved in the GeoSeine project.

This on-line workbook is dedicated to the collection and exploitation of literary and artistic representations of the Seine.
